West Coast rapper and actor Xzibit joins the cast of the upcoming remake of the cult classic "Bad Lieutenant" and will star alongside Nicholas Cage, Val Kilmer and Eva Mendes.

The remake of the cult classic film will follow a depraved New York police officer, who was heavily involved in drugs, gambling, sex and stealing; the original pic received an NC-17 rating. Nicholas Cage will play the main character, a cop who lives on the edge and Val Kilmer will play his partner.

Slated for a 2009 release, the re-imaging of director Abel Ferrara’s original "Lieutenant" will be helmed by "Rescue Dawn" director Werner Herzog.

The film's production is slated to begin this summer.
